NAFA to Distribute 2,000 American Footballs and 5,000 Flag Kits Nationwide in 2026, Targets 4,000 Schools in Five Years

The Nigerian American Football Association (NAFA) has announced an ambitious nationwide grassroots development initiative aimed at expanding access to American football across Nigeria.

In 2026, NAFA plans to distribute 2,000 American footballs and 5,000 flag football kits to schools and youth programs across the country, reinforcing its long-term goal of supporting 4,000 schools within the next five years.

Through sustained development efforts, NAFA has already introduced American football and flag football to over 10,000 young men and women across 18 states and more than 300 schools nationwide.

These initiatives have not only broadened participation but also elevated Nigeria’s competitive profile on the continental stage.

Notably, Nigeria recently recorded a historic milestone by securing its first-ever victory at the maiden Africa Continental Flag Football Championship, a success widely attributed to NAFA’s structured grassroots programs and athlete development pathways.

NAFA is an Associate Member of the International Federation of American Football (IFAF), further underscoring its commitment to aligning Nigeria’s American football ecosystem with global standards and best practices.

As part of the NFL Global Markets Program, the Cleveland Browns became the first National Football League (NFL) team to be granted international marketing rights in Nigeria.

Operating as Browns Nigeria, the franchise is focused on growing the game of American football in the country through fan engagement, strategic marketing, and impactful community initiatives.

A key component of this effort includes partnerships with local stakeholders, notably the Nigerian American Football Association (NAFA), to drive sustainable development at the grassroots level.
