22nd National Sports Festival: Flamingos Soar to Final, Golden Eaglets Miss Out

The 22nd National Sports Festival is heating up, with thrilling matches unfolding in the male and female football events.

In the male category, Team Kwara has qualified for the final after defeating Team Kaduna 1-0 in the first semi-final. Meanwhile, Team Ogun emerged victorious against the Golden Eaglets, winning 2-1 in the second semi-final.

The Golden Eaglets will now compete for the bronze medal against the loser of the other third-place match.

The team’s loss to Team Ogun means they will have to settle for a spot in the bronze medal match.

Flamingos Fly High
In the female event, the Flamingos (Nigeria’s U17 team) secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over Team Ogun, with Shakirat Moshood scoring the decisive penalty goal in the dying minutes of the match.

The Flamingos will now face Team Delta in the grand finale on Tuesday.

Team Delta booked their spot in the final after a convincing 4-1 win over Team Osun in the first semi-final.

The team will face off against the Flamingos in the championship match.

The match is scheduled for the third-place matches in Remo Stars Stadium, while the Male and female finals will be played at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex, Abeokuta, on Tuesday

The Golden Eaglets and Flamingos are participating in the 22nd National Sports Festival as part of the National Sports Commission’s Invited Junior Athletes (IJA) initiative.
