Roche Diagnostics Launches Operations in Nigeria, Reinforcing Commitment to Expanding Access to High-Quality Diagnostics

Roche Diagnostics has officially launched its new diagnostics legal entity in Nigeria, marking a significant milestone in its mission to expand access to high-quality diagnostics across Africa. This strategic expansion aligns with Roche’s 10-Year Diagnostics Strategy for Africa, which aims to increase access to in-vitro diagnostics (IVD) tenfold. With a presence in Africa spanning over 70 years, Roche is well-positioned to leverage its expertise in diagnostics infrastructure, systems optimization, process harmonization, skills transfer, capacity building, and workforce mobilization to improve healthcare outcomes in Nigeria and beyond.Africa faces significant healthcare challenges, carrying 25% of the global health burden while accounting for only 1% of the global health budget and 3% of the global health workforce. Roche’s investment in Nigeria aims to help reset these statistics by working closely with local governments and domestic funding institutions. The new legal entity will enable Roche to engage directly with customers, improve supply chain efficiency, and strengthen partnerships with healthcare providers. It will also facilitate stronger collaborations that support Nigeria’s journey to Universal Health Coverage (UHC).”We are creating a more responsive diagnostics ecosystem by working closely with local stakeholders,” said Roberto Taboada, Country Manager, Roche Diagnostics, Africa. “This is a significant step towards achieving sustainable healthcare transformation in Nigeria.”The new entity will serve as a hub that supports Roche engagements across Anglophone West Africa, ensuring faster access to Roche’s reliable diagnostics solutions.”We strengthen our role in delivering innovative diagnostics solutions that improve healthcare outcomes for more patients where it is needed most,” said Jonathan Keytel, Director, Strategy and Innovation, Roche Diagnostics, Africa. “Nigeria is a critical market, and this investment supports our long-term vision for healthcare in Africa.”Roche is a global leader in in-vitro diagnostics and the world’s largest biotechnology company. With a history dating back to 1896, Roche has grown into a pioneer in personalized healthcare, pursuing scientific excellence to discover and develop medicines and diagnostics that improve and save lives.
