GTI Group Mourns the Passing of Referee Assessor, Rachael Enagbare

Lagos, Nigeria – September 15, 2025 – Strategic partners of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), GTI Group, have expressed deep sorrow over the sudden passing of Mrs. Rachael Enagbare, who tragically died in Lagos over the weekend while serving as Referee Assessor during the NPFL Matchday 4 fixture between Ikorodu City and Barau FC.

According to reports, Mrs. Enagbare was rushed to Havana Hospital in Surulere after falling ill but sadly succumbed to complications from an undisclosed ailment.

In an official statement released to the press on Monday, GTI’s Head of Media and Publicity, Mr. Andrew Ekejiuba, described her passing as a profound loss to the football community and extended heartfelt condolences to her family and the Nigeria Referees Association (NRA).

“The GTI Group and football fans across the nation are deeply saddened by the unfortunate and unexpected demise of Mrs. Rachael Enagbare, a respected former referee who served diligently as a match assessor in the NPFL,” the statement read.

“We pray for the peaceful repose of her soul and extend our sincere sympathies to her family, colleagues, and the wider refereeing community.”

Mr. Ekejiuba also urged football lovers nationwide to stand in solidarity and support the bereaved family through thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

In a related statement, Chairman of the Nigeria Premier Football League, Otunba Gbenga Elegbeleye, described Mrs. Enagbare’s death as a significant loss to the league and Nigerian football at large.

He confirmed that the NPFL has been working closely with the Lagos State Football Association (LSFA), the Lagos Referees Council, and the NRA to coordinate the safe return of her remains to her family in Edo State.

Mrs. Enagbare will be remembered for her commitment to the game and her contributions to the development of refereeing standards in Nigerian football.
