HOUSE COMMITTEE ON SPORTS COMMENDS SUPER FALCONS’ EARLY QUARTERFINAL QUALIFICATION

The House of Representatives Committee on Sports has congratulated the Super Falcons on their impressive performance at the ongoing 2025 African Women’s Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco. With two commanding wins in Group B, the team has become the first to secure a place in the quarterfinals.
The Super Falcons kicked off their campaign with a 3-0 win over Tunisia, followed by a gritty 1-0 victory against Botswana on Thursday. These wins have not only showcased the team’s prowess but also solidified their position in the competition.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Hon. Kabiru Amadu, expressed confidence in the squad’s ability to reclaim the title they last lifted in 2018.
“Slowly but surely, the best team in Africa is progressing toward winning a tenth continental title,” he stated. “The Super Falcons are clearly focused on reclaiming their crown.”
Hon. Amadu emphasized the nation’s united support for the team, saying, “The Federal Government, the National Sports Commission, the Nigeria Football Federation, and over 180 million Nigerians are fully behind the team.
We are confident they can go all the way to the final and lift the trophy after a seven-year wait.
“The Super Falcons are set to play their final group stage match against Algeria on Sunday, July 13, 2025. Although their quarterfinal opponent is yet to be determined, the team’s focus remains on achieving success in the competition.
Hon. Amadu concluded by praising the quality and depth of the team, expressing optimism that the current squad has what it takes to restore Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football.
