HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON SPORTS CONGRATULATES D’TIGRESS ON HISTORIC AFROBASKET TITLE

The House of Representatives Committee on Sports extends its warmest congratulations to Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, on their remarkable victory at the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket Championship in Côte d’Ivoire.

The team clinched their seventh continental title and unprecedented fifth consecutive championship, defeating Mali 78-64 in a fiercely contested final.

The Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Hon. Kabiru Amadu, hailed the achievement as a testament to Nigeria’s growing dominance in women’s sports and a reflection of the current administration’s increased investment in sports development.

“This victory speaks volumes of the consistency, talent, and commitment of D’Tigress,” Amadu stated.

This triumph comes on the heels of the Super Falcons’ 10th WAFCON title, marking a golden period for women’s sports in Nigeria. Amadu expressed confidence that the players’ efforts would be duly recognized and rewarded, while commending the Nigeria Basketball Federation, National Sports Commission, and Federal Government for their roles in the team’s success.

D’Tigress, along with three other African teams, secured qualification for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Berlin, Germany.

The Committee looks forward to continued success and excellence in Nigerian sports.
