President Tinubu Grants State Pardon to Maryam Sanda
In a recent exercise of presidential clemency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has granted pardon to Maryam Sanda, among others, following a thorough review process led by the Presidential Advisory Committee on the Prerogative of Mercy.
Maryam Sanda, 37, was convicted in 2020 for culpable homicide and had served six years and eight months at the Suleja Medium Security Custodial Centre.
Her release followed persistent appeals from her family, who cited the welfare of her two young children as a compelling reason for clemency.
The plea also emphasized her good behavior during incarceration, genuine remorse, and her adoption of a reformed lifestyle—factors which underscored her eligibility under the criteria for presidential pardon.
“To err is human; to forgive, divine. May Allah pardon us all,” commented presidential aide Bayo Onanuga, reflecting on the spirit of the clemency.
