Gateway Games Ogun 2024: Lagos Eyes Fifth Spot Defense
As the 22nd National Sports Festival, tagged Gateway Games Ogun 2024, enters its final stretch, Lagos State is focused on defending its fifth position on the medals table. With 9 gold, 10 silver, and 18 bronze medals currently on the sixth position behind Oyo, the Centre of Excellence contingent is confident in its athletes’ abilities to deliver outstanding performances.
Lagos State athletes have shone in the weightlifting events, with Omolola Onome Didih winning two gold medals in the snatch and total categories with impressive lifts of 93kg and 205kg, respectively, in the women’s 55kg category. Additionally, Joy Chima contributed to Lagos’ medal tally with two bronze medals, lifting 71kg and 168kg in the snatch and total categories.
The Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Lekan Fatodu, has assured fans and stakeholders that Lagos athletes are poised to deliver electrifying moments and podium-finish performances throughout the tournament. Fatodu attributed the state’s success to the visionary leadership and strategic planning that have created an environment where sports talent can flourish.
