NAWIS Commends NSC’s Leadership Role in Resolving Post-Election Tensions
The National Association of Women in Sports (NAWIS) has commended the National Sports Commission (NSC) for its supervisory role in the recent election of Fatima Yusuf-Olukoju as the NAWIS representative to the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) board.
Following the election, which took place in Abuja, the NSC Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, held a reconciliatory meeting with NAWIS and the principal contestants, Fatima Yusuf-Olukoju and Nneka Anibeze, to iron out any disputes.
The meeting resulted in both women agreeing to put aside their differences and work together for the advancement of women and girls in Nigerian sports.
Fatima Yusuf-Olukoju, who won the election, expressed her gratitude to the NSC leadership for their attention to detail and commitment to Nigerian sports.
“The DG is one person that can bring everybody to one table and make us talk, which is what we need in our sports,” she said.
Nneka Anibeze, the runner-up, also praised the NSC’s role in brokering peace and allowing both women to work towards a common goal.
“I thank the DG for coming in and brokering peace… We have now agreed to work together for the same goal and believe better things are ahead.
“The two women have pledged to team up and move the AFN forward, with a shared passion for promoting women and girls in athletics.
The NSC’s intervention has been seen as a significant step in promoting unity and cooperation in Nigerian sports.
