NIGERIA WINS HOSTING RIGHTS FOR 2ND AFRICAN SCHOOL GAMES IN 2027
Nigeria has been awarded the hosting rights for the 2nd African Schools Games, scheduled for 2027.
The announcement was made in Algiers, following a competitive bidding process where Nigeria emerged victorious over strong contenders, including South Africa and Kenya.
The Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, expressed pride and excitement over Nigeria’s achievement, stating, “This is a huge win for Nigeria and for the future of sports development on the continent. Our successful bid reflects the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to sports excellence and the Renewed Hope Mandate.
“Hon. Olopade assured that Nigeria will deliver an unforgettable experience for young athletes from across the continent in 2027.
The country’s successful bid was influenced by its recent track record of hosting top-tier competitions, including the National Sports Festival and the 3rd CAA Africa U18/U20 Athletics Championships.
The Director General commended the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) for the confidence reposed in Nigeria and assured that preparations will commence immediately to ensure the highest standards.
The Nigerian delegation that led the bid included Hon. Bukola Olopade and President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Habu Gumel.
