SMEDAN Strengthens MSMEs Sector with BDSP Certification Program

The Small and Medium-scale Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) recently hosted a significant event: the National Business Development Service Providers (BDSP) Certification and Accreditation Program.

This initiative aims to bolster the MSMEs sector through standardization and professional development.

Honourable Minister of State for Industry, Senator John Owan Enoh, attended the program, emphasizing the importance of regulatory frameworks for BDSPs, while the Minister inspected SMEDAN’s training facilities for entrepreneurs in woodwork, leatherwork, and garment production. Licensed BDSPs took an oath to serve clients with integrity and professionalism.

Honourable Minister of State for Industry, Senator John Owan Enoh,whowas happywith the establishing a framework for Business Development Service interventions to ensure credibility and efficiency through training, certifying, and accrediting entrepreneurs to enhance their performance, that will be fostering a well-equipped workforce to drive economic development.

The Enterprise Development Centre and Kaduna Business School introduced the SPONGE acronym, representing:

  • Strengthening the ecosystem
  • Pairing younger consultants with seasoned professionals
  • Opportunity creation for BDSPs
  • National reach and local support
  • Governance channel enhancement
  • Empowerment for skills development

The certified BDSPs are expected to extend their services to underserved regions, providing quality assistance to Nigerian MSMEs. This initiative has the potential to significantly impact the MSMEs sector, promoting economic growth and development.
